TOKEN VERIFICATION GUIDE · UPDATED 2026-09-06

How to verify a token contract before you trade or launch

A token name and ticker are not unique identifiers. Verify the chain and contract address first, then compare the pair and market data against independent sources.

  1. 1. Start with the contract address

Copy the address from the project’s official channel or a block explorer. Do not treat a search result, logo, name or ticker as proof of identity.

  2. 2. Confirm the chain and explorer record

Open the address on the explorer for the stated network. Check that the contract, token decimals and holder or transfer activity fit the asset you expect.

  3. 3. Match the trading pair

On DexScreener or GeckoTerminal, compare the pair’s chain, base token address and quote token. A similarly named pair on another chain is a different asset.

  4. 4. Read liquidity and volume in context

Liquidity, volume and price can change quickly. Record the time and source, and do not infer safety, future returns or legitimacy from one metric.

FAQ

Is a ticker enough to identify a token?

No. Tickers and names can be reused. Use the chain plus the exact contract address.

Why can two results have the same name?

Tokens can be deployed independently on different networks, and names are not globally unique.

What should I save when checking a token?

Save the contract address, chain, pair URL, source and the UTC time of the check.
